Rocky Mountain Natural Region

Bluerock Wildland Park preserves the Sheep River valley between Elbow-Sheep Wildland Park and the eastern boundary of Kananaskis Country; the area is a transition zone between the Rocky Mountain and Foothills natural regions and provides a travel corridor for numerous wildlife species, including elk, moose, bighorn sheep, white-tailed deer, mule deer, wolves, grizzly bears, black bears and cougars.

Backcountry camping permits (403-678-3136): May-Aug. 31, phone lines open 7 days/week 9:00 a.m. to Noon & 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.; in September, phone lines open Mon.-Fri. 9:00 a.m. to Noon; Oct. 1-May, a voice mail system is in effect - all messages responded to by information centre staff.
