BirdingBirding
  • Gooseberry Lake is an Important Bird Area; large numbers of shorebirds have been recorded during both spring & fall migrations; sanderlings & red-necked phalaropes are two of the more common species; the lake is a late summer staging area for ducks, geese & swans; other water birds, such as gulls, great blue herons & American white pelicans, are common in the area; in addition to its importance to shorebirds, Gooseberry Lake supports a small population of the nationally endangered piping plover.
